Busagan Falls. Sitio Sabangan, Barangay J. P. Laurel, Malungon, Sarangani Province. This is the one of the hidden treasures in Malungon today, considered as under develop made thru possible by the sponsorship of our own boxing champion Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao. I heard that he is the tourism director in our province, but I failed to verify about this rumor when I was there. Busagan Falls is quiet away from the national highway (connecting Davao City and General Santos City), from
barangay proper, you’ll need to ride a motorcycle commonly known as “habal-habal” and it takes 1 ½ hour depending on the weather and the driver on he handles the grueling rough road for the amount of Php. 100.00/head. If you want to walk, it’s better to leave before sunrise coz it takes you an estimated 2 ½ - 3 hrs. in a normal pace and please show your respect and behave the natives there.
Though, this is my 3rd time visit of this falls but still I’m eager to go back, maybe out of curiosity on what are the changes or improvement of the place. My first visit, when I was in grade 6 hehehe if I’m not mistaken it’s year 1995 and then my second visit was year 1999 and exactly 10 years, it’s year 2009. Based on my observation, the nearby forest that surrounds the falls is almost half dead, maybe due to the continues “kaingin” operation in the place, if I remember 10 years back you can still see those
giant lawaan trees and you can swim the creek along the trail, but now it’s quiet destructed by the debris of branches…so sad. Another depressing observation is the amount of water; I guess the flow of water loses about 50% or more. But I do hope that thru the sponsorship of Pacman, the people there must be aware and learn on to preserve the mother nature. Anyway, I am glad to our boxing champion for his generosity and his advocates. I saw some trees that was planted during the launching that was participated by the volunteers, mountaineers from the neighboring towns and the locals. If you want to visit Busagan Falls, you may drop at the Barangay J. P. Laurel then you
can ask permission from the barangay captain and arrange/negotiate the habal2x driver, anyway I was surprised that the motorist in our barangay started to emerge but I’m glad. You can give some donation(but minimum of Php 50.00 hehe is it a donation or a compulsory) at the house of the sitio leader at the Sitio Sabangan proper and lastly please don’t forget to sign the log book for visitors. Happy Trekking and please observe cleanliness along the trail, the leave no trace must be applied!.More pictures from Busagan Falls here.
Next I will blog about my first ever Zipline Ride Experience at Camp Sabros in Kapatagan, Digos City.
